Privacy Policy

Who we are
Decibel One LLC, 2389 Main St., Ste 100, Glastonbury, CT 06033, USA (our registered address), is responsible for the personal information described here (its "controller"). For anything about privacy, email support@decibelone.com.
This policy covers decibelone.com, our apps for Mac and Windows, Decibel One sign-in, feedback sent from our apps, and license purchases. A web app that a business uses under its own agreement with us is covered by that agreement.
Our website
decibelone.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking. A page that offers a choice of language remembers your pick in your own browser, and nowhere else. GitHub hosts the site, and Google Fonts and jsDelivr serve its type and icons. Like any web server, each of them sees your IP address and browser when you visit, under its own privacy policy. We receive no visitor logs from any of them.
Downloading and updating the apps
The apps download from GitHub. An app that checks for updates fetches a small feed file from GitHub; the request carries only what any web request does, such as your IP address, and the app's name and version.
Using the apps
The apps contain no analytics, advertising or tracking. What you make in them stays on your computer unless you choose to send it. Your license is checked on your computer, with no server.
Feedback you send
When you choose Send Feedback in an app, we receive:
- your email address, which we confirm by emailing you a six-digit code, and your name if you give it;
- your message;
- a details line: the app and its version, your operating system's version, your computer's model and its language;
- if you choose to include them, a picture of the app's own window and the end of the app's log, which can name devices and network addresses in your setup.
The app shows you everything that goes with a report before you send it, and you can leave any of it out. We also record the IP address that asks for a code, so we can limit abuse. We use all of this to read, answer and fix what you report, which is in both your interest and ours.
Decibel One sign-in
A Decibel One account is set up by invitation from an organization. It holds your name, email address, phone number if you give one, your password (stored only as a one-way hash), the organizations and apps you belong to, and when you last signed in. For each signed-in session we keep the IP address and browser it came from. We use this to sign you in, keep your account secure and show your organization who has access, as part of the service your organization arranged with us.
Some app features that an organization turns on through sign-in send information from your computer to our server, for the people in that organization to see.
Buying a license
Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle collects your payment details, name, email address, billing address and any tax details, under Paddle's privacy policy; we never see your card. Paddle sends us your name, email address, company name if you give one, country, what you bought, the price and the order number. We use them to make and email your license file, which carries the name you choose to show as "Licensed to", to answer your questions and refunds, and to keep the records tax law requires.
Emails with us
When you email us, we keep the conversation in our email, which Google Workspace provides.
Who receives it
We share personal information only with the companies that help us run these services, each for its own part:
- Paddle.com: the Merchant of Record for license purchases.
- DigitalOcean: hosts our server, in New York.
- Cloudflare: stands in front of our server and protects it.
- Resend: sends our emails: sign-in and feedback codes, licenses and notices.
- GitHub: hosts our website, downloads and update feeds.
- Google: our email, and the website's type.
We may also share it with our professional advisers, such as accountants and lawyers, and with authorities where the law requires. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
Our server and its backups are in the United States, so what you send us is stored there.
How long we keep it
- Purchase records: as long as tax law requires.
- License records: as long as the license exists, so we can send it to you again.
- Accounts and their sign-in records: while the account is open. Ask and we will delete your account.
- Feedback: reports, with the address and IP address that sent them, are kept as the record of what was reported and fixed. Ask and we will delete yours.
- Backups: copies of our database are kept on our own backup storage so we can recover from a fault. A deletion takes effect in the live database at once.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, or give it to you in a form you can take elsewhere, and you can object to how we use it or withdraw a consent you gave. Where you live may give you further rights, such as those under the GDPR in the EU and the UK, or under California law. Email support@decibelone.com; we will check that the request comes from you and answer within one month. You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
Keeping it safe
Everything travels over encrypted connections. Passwords and feedback tokens are stored only as one-way hashes, license files are signed so they cannot be forged, and only Decibel One can sign in to our server.
Cookies
decibelone.com sets no cookies. Decibel One sign-in uses only what it needs to keep you signed in, and nothing for tracking or advertising.
Children
Our services are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
We may update this policy, and the date at the top of this page says when we last did.
